A Suspicious Fire Breaks Out In The American University In Dubai.
Dubai—A suspicious fire tragedy hits the tennis court at the American University In Dubai from 6:00 to 6:30 am Tuesday, resulting in the death of two students and a substantial damage to AUD’s property, Police Chief Constable Meedo Taha said.
Three security guards have witnessed the tragedy, but have no details on how the fire began. Details of the tragedy are still under investigation, but the authorities have been able to find evidence of cigarette buds on the premises as well as an evidence of a big bag of pipes used for smoking under the tree. It has been accounted that four students have accessed AUD prior to 6:30, but they have not been spotted outside the tennis court. However, the case remains under examination on why these four students decided to visit AUD on a holiday.
Police Chief Meedo Taha stated at a press conference right after the tragedy that, “the security guard that was supposed to be stationed there first noticed evidence of the fire around 6:15.” “He saw no evidence of fault play however, he saw a cloud of smoke above the tennis court which indicated that the fire was quiet large,” Taha added.
Trials to put down the fire by the three securities failed due to the massive size of the fire, and as the firefighters reached the spotted area five minutes after being informed by one of the security guards, two bodies had been found lying by the court. One of the bodies has still not yet been identified properly, but the other, according to Taha, after refusing to disclose many times, is a male student that smokes.
“The cigarette buds and the bag of smoking pipes found are not complete evidence if it has caused the fire or not, but the evidence of the medwakh, bag of pipes under the tree at the tennis court, could be a reason to believe that the tennis courts are being used as contraband exchange of goods” Taha said. However he adds that, out of the five security cameras directed towards the tennis court only one camera has been able to capture the full scene and it is being examined as further proof to the case.
Students that live in the dorms with a clear view of the tennis court are being questioned if they have seen anything, and the tennis courts have been closed down for further notice until the investigation is done.
According to Taha, he says: “So far the tennis courts are treated as a scene of an accident.” “Whether or not we would qualify that as a crime scene or not depends if the incident itself is identified as a crime or not,” he adds.
Further details on the tragedy have been said to be updated after further investigations of the case are examined.
